Practice deep work during the day. Deep sleep will follow at night.
It is frustrating to put in long hours at work, only to feel dissatisfied with what actually got done during the day. This leaves us anxious. Our sleep suffers.
My observation is that often the issue is not our effort, or our intention. It is the constant stream of workplace interruptions. This is a recent development of the last decade.
Deep work can help:
* Blocking 2 to 3 hours in the day for uninterrupted focus at work. Whatever duration works for one initially. We are all different. Our journeys have been quite different. * Managing all notifications. Phone on Do-Not-Disturb mode, while keeping emergency bypasses active so loved ones can still reach us. * Setting expectations by updating office messenger status so colleagues know we are focusing for a bit. * Embracing slower replies. Most emails and messages can wait for a while.
When we concentrate on our work, we experience a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. It has a calming effect.
