NULL Root - James Suret - A short run-based roguelite arcade shooter with a weird control system

I started out trying to make a small, casual incremental game but it gradually evolved into something much more action-heavy (because I kinda got bored with incremental games) and its more like an arcade roguelite now. Each run starts quick, and you extend your time through upgrades you buy.

Game trailer is here: https://youtu.be/po0tpJVqnYo?si=zqlpob5-P0vtph8o

You can buy lots of skills but you can only have 2 on at any time, L/R mouse buttons to trigger them.

One of the main twists is the control scheme. You don’t control a traditional character with WASD, your “Patch Daemon” follows your mouse cursor (you can use gamepad analog sticks). Some abilities fire from the daemon and others fire directly from your cursor. You can temporarily detach (holding space) the cursor to position attacks independently. It ends up feeling a bit like controlling two points at once, and you can setup some interesting combos that way as there are AOEs and traps. For example you can place a "firewall" that blocks enemies on one side of the screen using the mouse cursor whilst firing off a AOE explosion from your "Daemon" body, or you can draw a line with your mouse cursor and it detonates.

The full game will have 5 bosses with randomized order and scaling difficulty and skills. Anyway, if you want to check it out in the browser its on itch http://itch.io :  https://zerojs.itch.io/nullroot

Or try the demo on steam:  https://store.steampowered.com/app/4512830/Null\_Root/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/4512830/Null_Root/

The full release will be on steam in a few months, just after the Steam Next fest in June.
Oh there is also a native steam deck version as well so no need for emulation.
