Hi everyone, i'm making this post because i need advice on a dillema i'm having.
Last summer, i've decided on a whim to travel the french alps. It's a trail called GTA (Great crossing of the french alps), sharing the GR5 trail. I saw a picture and knew i had to go.
It was one of the most difficult experience of my life, but it was worth living every second of it. I've never walked on a mountain before, i'm Belgian and i'm very lazy. And now i'm really regretting it. All my school years, i used to do nothing of my holidays. Watching videos, playing games and sleeping.
This 30+ days trip changed my vision of living. Actually, i'd say it's the starting point of the life i've always dreamed of. It really was the best thing i've ever experienced.
Now's my last year of school and i've counted every single holiday i had to make sure to go on every occasion i get. When i'll start working full time, i'll get 20 days of vacation per year. So i have to take full advantage of the huge privilege I have now.
My first is mid october to start of november, 16 days. I decided to do the crossing of the Mercantour, GR52. But the problem is, i didn't know snow and ice came this soon at these altitudes, and here's my dillema.
I'd need a new sleeping bag, some warmer clothes and crampons. The problem is i'm already on the edge of my budget, almost all of my personal funds have been spent on the first trip. I have a little less than 500 euros but i need them for the actual trip too. I can't count on my parents to help (and it's totaly understandable, i kinda ruined em too lol).
I thought about working but finding a student job mid september is pretty fucking short, i'm not gonna lie.
Do you people know any advice to improve my 0°c limit sleeping bag ? The crampons aren't a problem, they're pretty cheap. Clothing, i can work something out too. Should i try it or is it too risky ? It would waste 16 crucial days but i prefer living longer to witness many other wonders than to die of hypothermia. #activity #hiking source
