How to explain a pets death.
I have a 12 year old chihuahua terrier, he has been my baby since he was 5 months old. I have two kids 7 and 3, they have been raised along side the dog. Our dog is so important to us, we all get so excited to see him and love him deeply. Recently he has gotten a tumor, its very small and doesn't seem to be hurting him, but he has other health issues too. He has arthritis, a stage 2 heart murmur, he has lost some teeth from age, his eyes are not working well, and his hearing is not perfect.
I know that it could be time to put him down soon, I hope we can make it to winter but it feels like we don't have that long. I don't know how to explain to my babies that we might need to say goodbye.
Any ideas on how to help them with such a huge loss?
