October Michigan Roadtrip
My wife and I will be traveling to Mackinac Island for a wedding in early October, and I've never had the chance to visit the great state of Michigan! I'm flying into Detroit on a Friday morning, and flying back out on Wednesday late afternoon. I'm renting a car the full time.
The only solidified plan is that we are parking our rental in Mackinaw City and taking the ferry to Mackinac, sleeping there Friday and Saturday night. I'm hoping to build out a road trip that includes two places high on my bucket list: Pictured Rocks and Sleeping Bear Dunes. I put together a rough itinerary, but I would love this community's recommendations on how many nights to stay in each stop, towns to prioritize on our drive down the west coast, places to eat, or other must-see attractions.
I know we'll be rushing through this a bit, but it was the most time we could take off from work. Any insights are much appreciated!
**Day 1:** Fly into Detroit, Drive to Mackinac Island
**Day 2:** Mackinac Island
**Day 3:** Drive to Tahquamenon Falls, Sunset Cruise to Pictured Rocks?, Sleep in Munising
**Day 4:** Cruise to Pictured Rocks if we didn't the day before, or hike in Pictured Rocks, Sleep in Munising. I am budgeting an extra day here in case of bad weather.
**Day 5:** Drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Sleep in Traverse City
**Day 6:** Wake up early and drive down the coast, stop in 1 or 2 towns, drive back to Detroit
