I'm 18, from the UK, and I've decided to take a gap year. I've saved up about £9,000 from working for the past 2 and 1/2 years and the rough plan is to head to Southeast Asia starting in Thailand (probably mid to late October), then move through Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia, and possibly end up in Australia.
Honestly? I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. I haven't travelled solo before. I've travelled with family and as a duo with a friend. I have a plan I put together with some help from AI and research, but when I sit down and actually think about what I need to book, sort out, and prepare, my head starts spinning. Visas, injections(sorted), insurance, flights, hostels, money. it's a lot.
I'm not a big drinker an don't plan to burn through my money partying. I really just want to experience as much as I can: the food, the culture, the landscapes, meeting people from all over. I'm nervous but genuinely excited too.
I guess I'm just looking for some guidance from people who've been there.
How do you even start planning something like this without getting completely lost?
What are the absolute essentials I need to lock in before I go, and what can I figure out when I'm out there?
Any tips for someone who's nervous but really wants to make this happen?
