i just got uninvited from a party. should it feel as bad as it does? what do i do?
i’m somewhat new to my local area, i moved here as my boyfriend is in the military. it was hard as hell to make any new friends and took close to 6 months for me to do so. i’ve finally made friends with the wives of my boyfriend’s coworkers.
well, one is a friend of one of those wives, but i feel like we bonded personally. let’s call her B. i was invited to a barbecue for B’s husband’s birthday, as was our mutual friend. both our significant others were invited as well. i was told about this weeks in advance and already accepted the invite for myself, but couldn’t guarantee my boyfriend would be there. she asked again today if we were coming in a group chat, and i said i would be, but my boyfriend has to work. she says great.
but less than a couple hours later, B texts me and tells me that she talked to her husband and said he only wants close friends there so she uninvited me but said there were plenty of barbecues in the future i could go to. it stung, i’m not going to lie. i asked why this wasn’t discussed prior to inviting me and she said she wanted to do most the heavy lifting about the party and didn’t want her husband to worry, but when she said the guest list he realized he didn’t want certain people to come, including me. i’m understanding of that, i don’t know the husband well.
i feel betrayed and ostracized though, more so because B had told me for weeks i could go and i got uninvited last minute but mutual friend is still going. am i wrong to feel this way? i just said no worries and i hope he has a good birthday, but i’m kind of hurt. do i talk to her about it? or our mutual friend? mutual friend is closer to her than me, so i’m scared i’ll lose her if i bring it up, but she’s my closest friend out here.
