ANStorm Surge and Flooding Expected as Hurricane Ernesto Nears Bermuda

Though downgraded to a Category 1 storm, Ernesto will still bring an especially serious danger as it closes in on Bermuda. Strong winds, dangerous storm surges, and flooding that could endanger lives might affect the British island territory.

The U.S. ational Hurricane Center reported early Saturday that the center of the storm would pass close to or over Bermuda by morning. Later in the day, worst impacts were projected for storm surges and flash flooding.

The center of Ernesto was located about 65 miles south-southwest of Bermuda at 11 p.m. ST Friday, the National Hurricane Center said. Rain bands were already hitting the island on Friday afternoon. Bermuda is apt to go through along session of hazardous weather conditions through Saturday night due to Ernesto's slow movement of north-northeast at 13 mph and the storm's size.
