At the time it was a challenge. I learnt a LOT, and really enjoyed it. I’d never really done anything like that and bought a circular saws. I thought that if I was going to get into wood working, I shouldn’t buy a workbench. It’s been really handy.
I’ve been looking at getting a DeWalt table saw and I’ve been down a rabbit hole looking at tons of integrated workshop bench designs. It all looks brilliant and I’d like to make something new but it seems like a shame to get rid of the one that I have now.
My thinking is to build an extension that bolts onto my current one (to the back). I’d like the new surface to be roughly a third longer than the current top. This would house the saw and allow me to have a nice big surface. I’d like the total worktop to be level other that the tool well.
I’m not looking to build something that matches the original construction exactly. A plywood top on a simple but solid frame would be absolutely fine. The current work bench is super sturdy. I wouldn’t want to ruin that but I’m wondering if the build needs to be so complex?
Any thoughts welcome, even if it’s just “bin the bench and start again.” Happy to be told I’m overcomplicating it!
Thanks for your advice!!
