The manticore is an ancient mythical creature originating in ancient Persia around 1000 BC, although some say it originated even farther east like India. It is said to possess a mouth full of teeth that eats it's prey whole, bones and all. It's roar is said to be like the loud sound of trumpets. It is an amalgamation of a lion's body, a scorpion's tail, and the face of a man. It's tail is said to have quills like a porcupine that it can shoot like arrows with great precision. It's named is derived from Ancient Greek "martikhórās" which means man-eater.
It is one of my favorite mythical creatures which I think doesn't get enough love in a lot of media, dragons and griffins usually take that role. But I think the Manticore is very underrated as a monster and tool for horror and shows the side of nature that needs to be respected or else feared. As Zoro from One Piece puts it "Have you ever seen a wild beast you were sure would not bite?" #art source
