Russia and North Korea opened their first road bridge across their shared border on 7 September, adding a two-lane vehicle link over the Tumen River. 🚚
The crossing connects Khasan in Russia’s Primorsky Krai with Tumangang in North Korea. Russian officials said the new checkpoint can handle up to 300 vehicles a day.
The countries had previously been connected by a railway bridge and air services. They agreed to build the road bridge in 2024, and construction formally began in April 2025.
Russian officials said the bridge could support trade, tourism and other exchanges. It opens as Moscow and Pyongyang continue to deepen ties during Russia’s war in Ukraine. 🌉
