What's the most infuriating thing a contractor has done to you mid-renovation?
I'll start. I hired someone to install a whole-house water filtration system. Mid-job, he told me I *needed* an extra part β said without it there'd be problems down the line. Thing is, he never mentioned it in the original quote, and I had no way to verify on the spot whether it was real or a upsell.
I looked it up afterward β the part sells for a fraction of what he charged. Turns out this is a classic contractor "tip jar" β they recommend expensive add-ons homeowners can't easily fact-check in the moment.
I pushed back, he came down a bit, but I still paid more than I should have.
What's your story? Getting blindsided mid-project, unexpected charges, parts you later found out were marked up 300%... I want to hear the worst of it. #home
