For those who have been to French Polynesia: which islands…

For those who have been to French Polynesia: which islands did you actually like more than the islands of French Polynesia?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have travelled quite a lot and have visited places like Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Raiatea, Huahine, Taha’a, the Tuamotus, the Marquesas, etc.

French Polynesia obviously looks incredible, but I’m curious whether there are islands elsewhere in the world that you personally found more impressive or more interesting overall.

I’m not necessarily talking about having the “best beach” or the bluest lagoon. I’m more interested in the combination of things that can make an island really exceptional: dramatic landscapes, isolation, relatively intact ecosystems, endemic wildlife and plants, unusual geology, jungle, mountains, clear water, remote beaches, interesting villages/culture, and the feeling that you’re genuinely somewhere far away from the rest of the world.

I’m also particularly interested in islands that still feel relatively wild, quiet and non-touristy, rather than places that are beautiful but heavily developed or crowded.

So, if you’ve been to French Polynesia and have travelled to other remote or unusual islands, which ones genuinely stood out to you as being even more spectacular, unique or memorable?

And if you had to choose just one island or island group anywhere in the world that you would personally put above French Polynesia, what would it be and why?

I’m looking for ideas beyond the obvious answers, so feel free to mention obscure places too.
