I'm shocked. Can someone check my math on how much energy a 200,000 sqft data center uses?
I'm very new to learning about data centers and the effects, so please bear with me.
An average 200,000 sqft data center uses 20 MW to 60 MW, and one that runs AI uses 50 MW to 80 MW.
Power Demand = MW x 1,000 x 24 (hours)
20 MW - 480,000 kWh (kilowatt hour)
50 MW - 1,200,000 kWh
80 Mw - 1,920,000 kWh
An average home uses 30 kWh
So if the data center uses 20 MW, it's like an extra 16,000 homes are on that grid?
50 MW, is 40,000 extra homes and 80 MW is 64,000 homes??
