Is it bad that I find myself 'sticking' to social butterflies?
Hi! 20M with crippling social anxiety. I've been trying to get myself out of the house and I'm having issues speaking without being explicitly asked to. My overthinking is short-circuited when someone is waiting for my response. I've been lucky to encounter people that bite the bullet and explicitly prompt me to share with the class. A few problems though:
* Problem A: I HAVE to learn to take the initiative: a lot of thoughts go unshared, fewer connections happen, etc. * Problem B: Until that is sorted, I gravitate heavily towards social people. Usually 2-3 people constantly speak up and ask everyone for their opinion. I talk mostly to them. The other 6-10 people that introduce themselves to me and I introduce myself to – very short conversations, I usually forget their names. **Is that a problem?**
My social skills are bad: I have problems with remembering names, eye contact and other things but they pale in comparison to my initiative deficiency. When the conversation comes to a halt I usually have things I could say but I stay silent.
For the positives: I usually listen to people and let them know with nonverbal cues. I laugh and smile a LOT, I make silly remarks and jokes.
Despite social anxiety I leave most social situations very giggly, bubbly and happy; then the neuroticism settles in. You are now probably witnessing the latter. Thank you for your attention!
