Firefighter who helped deliver a baby girl in 2004 drove nearly 800 miles to watch her graduate college 22 years later
In February 2004, Colorado Springs firefighter Alan Kent answered a medical call and helped deliver a baby girl. Most first responders never learn what happens to the people they help — they show up on the worst or most important day of someone's life, do everything they can, and the person disappears back into the world.
This time was different.
Alan stayed in the family's life for the next 22 years. The firefighter became a friend, and the friend became something more like family.
Last month, Chloe Huddle graduated from Grand Canyon University with a degree in educational studies. Alan got in his car and drove nearly 800 miles from Colorado to Arizona to watch her walk across the stage.
"It just means the world to me that I have so many people here to support and celebrate me in this big life moment," Chloe said. "I love talking about it because it just shows there is so much hope in the world and goodness in the world — even in a heartbroken world." #inspiration
