🇩🇪 Germany said Russia was responsible for an attempted explosives-drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport on 4 August, when a device was found near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft. The drone did not detonate.
The government said police investigations, offence patterns and intelligence findings supported its assessment that the operation was carried out on behalf of Russian state agencies. Russia rejected the allegation, according to Associated Press reporting.
📰 Leipzig/Halle is Germany’s second-largest cargo airport and hosts DHL’s largest global Express hub, giving the incident implications for a major freight and logistics site as well as airport security. ✈️
Berlin said it would close Russia’s consulate in Bonn and terminate the operating agreement for Russian House in Berlin. Germany also outlined further measures; the EU and NATO expressed support, while authorities have not publicly detailed every aspect of the investigation.
