Filipinos has lots of traditions and heritage may it be values , practices , beliefs and foods passed down through generations . Our family has it's own too from certain beliefs to certain foods that i remember from childhood. I will just share a few.
It's a must for us to use "Po" and "Opo" as our way of respect while talking to elders. Celebrating holidays together as family specifically during Christmas and New Year.
Foods that can't be without during holidays are sticky " Kakanin " or " Rice cake " coz it's a belief that it helps to stregthen family ties coz of it's sticky texture that will bond families even more , or " Ube Halaya " a dessert made of purpleyam that's quite challenging to prepare from boiling to grinding and mixing it for hours in low heat until it reach it's sticky and chewy texture.
Granny used to make it during holiday season and passed to mom then to me coz i love cooking ( when they are both gone.) I only cooked it once a year coz geez it's a real workout for my arms ,lol !
A tradition we keep for years coz those sweet treats are genuinely delicious and been a family favorite.
