Jan Demczur, 9/11 survivor, circa 1981
Jan immigrated to NYC from Poland around 1980 and soon got a job as a window washer at the WTC complex. On September 11th, 2001 he wound up trapped in a North Tower elevator with five other men after AA Flight 11 crashed into the building.
They would collectively use his squeegee to carve through the elevator shaft wall, exit into a 50th floor restroom, and escape WTC1 5 minutes before it collapsed. https://www.911memorial.org/connect/blog/Jan-Demczur
