I'm looking to get a portable/handheld recorder for recording my grand piano at home at 200$ or less. Which one should I get?
I'm very new to the world of audio engineering and recording. Since I mainly want to get a decent audio quality that's better than my iPhone 13, I'm just looking to purchase a handheld recorder like Zoom/Tascam (using its built-in mics) that isn't too pricey. I was considering the Zoom H6, but I don't know if it's necessary since I won't be using all its XLR inputs in the near future. At the same time, the Zoom H4N/H4Npro and Tascam DR40x seem very dated at this point and just not worth buying in 2024. The new Zoom H4N essential is selling at the same price point as the Zoom H4N pro, and I was wondering if that would be a reasonable buy despite the fact that the Zoom essential series has received tons of criticism since its launch. The Zoom F series and Tascam Portacapture series all look very promising, but slightly above my budget. In addition, the room I'm recording in has very heavy reverb/echo even after I've tried "treating" it with curtains, carpets, piano covers, and sound absorbing wall adhesives. I'm looking to get a sound substantially better than smartphone mics, not a professional sound. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! #audio #music source
