There’s an entirely different world after you approach 5+ people for micro-interactions
I wanted to break out of my shell a bit so I made a habit at some point that when I’m on way out of Starbucks, I stop by a random person for a really short and simple interaction. Things like “hey excuse me I love your laptop case, do you remember where you got it? …Thanks have a great day!” Etc.
Doing it on my way out made it feel slightly easier since mentally I know I’m getting tf outa there no matter what irrational thing my brain is picturing.
I thought it would take more, but it literally took like 5 of these and I felt like an entirely different person and it was like ripping a band aid or jumping into a cold pool. I now sometimes find myself smiling and nodding at strangers if we make random eye contact instead of quickly looking away. When someone I know is with someone I don’t, I now instinctively introduce myself “hey I don’t think we’ve met before, I’m \[name\] nice to meet you”. When I need help from an employee in a store, my comfort level for how far away I need to be to call for them is greater.
I would highly recommend trying this form of exposure therapy, if any of the above resonates. #relationships source
