Anniversary gift - he liked it better than professional photos 😅
10 years ago while we waited for our professional wedding photos, I sketched a goofy stick people image of our little family. My husband adored it and framed it. When our daughter was born a year later, I removed the frame, added her, and put it back in the frame.
In 2020, my husband asked me to update with our son. I meant to. And never did, because….life. He’s asked a few more times since, and again, I’ve always meant to. But we also had real photos. And this was just stick people, so simple in a life that often felt so complicated. There was also something pure about that original drawing and its mini update - I didn’t want to mess with it.
So for our 10th anniversary, I decided to catch up (and add our beloved son 😅). At first I was going to make it elaborate, in color, add little images of things from each year that made that year what it was. And I drew and re-drew that first one (an image of pure joy from our wedding) because I didn’t feel I was “capturing” the meaning. I tried too hard, wasted paper and energy.
So then I put on headphones, a song that reminds me of him, and I scribbled. 10 frames. One for each year of our lives together so far.
