🚁 A charter helicopter crashed in northern Kenya on Wednesday, August 19, killing all seven people aboard, authorities said. The aircraft was flying from Loisaba Conservancy toward the Ewaso Nyiro area in Samburu County.

The dead included five U.S. citizens, according to the U.S. State Department. Ecuador confirmed that National Intelligence Center director Michele Sensi-Contugi and his wife, Stephany Hollihan Vasconez, were among the victims; NBCUniversal said Telemundo executive José Suárez also died.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority said the Eurocopter EC130 B4 went down at 9:13 a.m. local time. Reports placed the crash in rugged foothills near Mount Ololokwe, where recovery teams faced fire and difficult access. 🕯️

The helicopter was owned by Lady Lori Helicopters and was operating a charter flight for guests travelling with &Beyond. Tropic Air Kenya said it sent aircraft to assist search-and-rescue operations.

Kenyan aviation authorities have opened an investigation. The cause has not been announced; the country’s accident-investigation process is intended to establish safety factors and prevent recurrence rather than assign blame. ✈️
