Did you notice that especially in Anglophone countries academic "philosophy of religion" means at best philosophical theology, if not outright religious philosophy?
I'm talking about branch or subdivision of philosophy, which should be concerned of religion as existing phenomenon. Instead I see numerous thinkers interested in arguments for existence of God, paradoxes brought by Gods' alleged powers, his attributes discussed in formal, logical way. These topics belong traditionally to "natural/rational theology", field of metaphysics, but said thinkers are identified as (analytic) "philosophers of religion". Some of them are obvious Christian apologists. Philosophy of religion should be about religion and its' role/functions, not about God, which is itself object of religious belief. I see thinkers like Feuerbach or even Marx with his "opium of the people" as philosophers of religion, but things seem to be different in analytic philosophy, dominating in Anglophone countries.
