Shelton v Alcaraz. Arguably, one of the best matches of the tournament, if not the season, for American men's tennis and very few people in the United States saw it, because it ended at nearly 4 AM EST.
I get it, New York, "the city that never sleeps". But guess what...tennis fans do. And I don't know who else is with me on this, but the ATP and WTA need to have a conversation with the organizers of the US Open about start times. No other Grand Slam or ATP/ETA 1000 does this.
I recall in the 2012-2013 season when Andy Murray played Marcos Baghdatis in a third round match at Wimbledon that was the latest match ever played in the history of the tournament at that time. It ended at 11:05 PM. I get that London's a different city and they are required by the council to end matches due to noise constraints at an early time. But I think having a rule for Grand Slams and 1000s that says "no best of five sets matches begin after 8 PM local time" is not unreasonable. I mean who wants to stay up to 4 AM to watch a match, even if it is Ben Shelton taking down, Carlos Alcaraz? #sport
