Instead of preserving physical media, we should be fighting for digital rights instead

Sony just announced that they are ending the physical game discs for the playstation from January 2028 and although not officially confirmed, the same is being expected from Xbox Helix as well. Not to mention this happened right after Rockstar announced that GTA 6 physical copies will include only code in the box and then Sony announced they are removing north of 500 movies from their digital libraries of playstation users.

There is a lot of rumbling going on about this and Sony is catching heat. But I think most of the folks are fighting the wrong battle here. Instead of fighting to preserve the physical media, why not fight for the digital rights instead?

As much as I love the past time of owning the CDs and Blu-rays, I think we all can agree that the digital media is the present and the future, as much as I and everyone else hates it. So why not fight for the owning and sharing rights for digital media instead?

Not to mention that by fighting for digital rights instead, we can correct the course not only for video games but for music streaming, movies and TV shows streaming, software as a service rights too.
