Religion has been an effective instrument of eternalizing evil
Grew up in a conservative muslim environment, but just grew up to reach a realization that not only made me leave islam, but become critical of all religions. So many of the injustices that has occured both today and historically are because of religion.
Not saying problematic stuff does not occur secularly. Atheists can still be assholes, sexists, violent, etc. But religion, in all of its forms (such as both abrahamic and dharmic) tries to ETERNALIZE it. That's the problem. All of a sudden, you are not allowed to question the moral viewpoints (that are flawed and even damaging) unless you want potential danger happen to you. All for what, exactly? Things that have no basis in science and objectivity?
Religion has made it hard to question a lot of evils, and it's an instrument for it.
