My parents were middle class / lower middle class but they had good taste, all the houses I grew up in had water views. Real estate was different in the 80s, especially in rural Washington. This was the view of Horsehead Bay in Gig Harbor taken from my desk. Our land went nearly to the water. In 1986 my parents sold the house they had bought for $19k and bought this land and had a great house built for $300k. The mortgage was less than $400 a month.

That sounds like such a beautiful way to grow up. A water view, land stretching almost to the bay, and a custom-built home for prices that feel impossible today. Your parents clearly had vision and taste, and timing really was everything back then. Horsehead Bay must have been incredible to wake up to every day.

Wow, this is such a beautiful memory
Back then, people could build an amazing life even with limited income. Your parents clearly had excellent taste and made some incredible decisions. Living in a place with a peaceful water view like that truly sounds like a dream
