📉 LIV Golf filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New Jersey on Tuesday, reporting more than $500 million in debt after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund ended its financial support.
The breakaway golf league launched in 2022 and spent heavily to recruit players from the PGA Tour. Its early format paired individual play with team competition, no cuts and shotgun starts.
LIV says it has agreed on a restructuring plan with BC Partners as its main new source of capital. Four vendors have already sued over alleged non-payment, the Associated Press reported.
⛳ Chief executive Scott O’Neil has outlined a proposed “LIV Golf 2.0” with a reduced schedule, player ownership and lower prize money. No 2027 schedule or individual events have been announced, and the futures of players including Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm remain unconfirmed.
