Is the current “renting” scare justified or simply panic?
I’ve always liked building my own PC, and recently I wanted to upgrade my 6 year old one but HDDs and RAM prices are insane so I simply thought I’d wait it out and when the bubble pops it’ll atleast go slightly down but I’ve seen that there is a push of not getting anyth down for the normal consumer as to attract (or rather force) people into cloud computing.
I thought that this won’t really happen but I’ve seen everyone around claiming that with no consumer grade GPUs now and with parts being extremely expensive, and with data centers being built without realizing AI and imaginary demand, they won’t sell the parts or close down but force us to rent as it’ll simply be profitable.
what do you think? because I haven’t really experienced a “hardware apocalypse” before and wanted to know what everyone thinks
