🗳️ Morocco’s Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) won the most seats in provisional parliamentary-election results, taking 97 of 395 seats. The National Rally of Independents won 66 seats and Istiqlal took 65.
Turnout was 38.02%, down from 50% in 2021. No party secured an outright majority, so coalition negotiations will be needed before a government can be formed. 🤝
Under Morocco’s 2011 constitution, King Mohammed VI appoints the head of government from the largest party. PAM’s result therefore puts it in line to lead the next government, subject to that process.
The incoming government will face pressure over jobs, wages and living costs after Gen Z-led protests last year, while also overseeing investment connected to Morocco’s co-hosting of the 2030 World Cup. ⚽
