ELI5: How does a refrigerator generate heat?

We've all read the news about the hacker attacks on refrigerators in various countries. What I don't understand is how a refrigerator—whose job is to cool its contents—can heat up to 50 degrees Celsius and cause the food to spoil.

ELI5: Please help me understand how the bell theorem proves quantum entanglement exists over vast distances instead of just revealing their past entangled states

Ive been going down the rabbit hole of quantum entanglement today. And my brain is hurting and burning.

I see videos about bells experiment being used to prove that particles stay entangled even if they were across galaxies. That somehow they stay connected. I know Im too stupid to get it but Im genuinely curious, how does it prove that? To me just by measuring the particles, we dont prove that they are still somehow connected. We just reveal their already existing states.

So lets say, we have Particle A and B in an entangled state and they are right next to each other. So we know for certain one will show UP and the other will show DOWN. Now we seperate them, send one to Mars one to Pluto. The experiments say that because we still see UP and DOWN and still see the expected quantum state of Particle B even if measured at a different angle, that this proves they are entangled. But how? To me its obvious? If we seperate them at an entangled state, why are we surprised they are still showing entangled properties when measured later? To me it seems obvious they preserve their entangled states so we are just revealing their entangled properties that they had at the moment of seperation. So naturally we will see seemingly entangled results when measuring them on Mars and Pluto. But to me that doesnt mean they are still actively entangled and connected, just that they carry their past entangled legacy.

To me, to prove true entanglement over vast distance, what would need to be done is we seperate them and AFTER the moment of seperation we somehow alter the state of Particle A. So we send one to Mars, one to Pluto and on Pluto we actively change Particle A to UP, without observing or measuring. If they were truly still entangled, then Particle B would need to show DOWN, regardless of what the spin was when we seperated them. But apparently this doesnt work. So how is any of this proving this non-locality and still active entanglement? I genuinely dont get it

To me what we instead do is we take a pair of coins. We know for certain that when we package them for Mars and Pluto, one is showing tails and head. So obviously when we reopen them they still show this. Wouldnt entangled mean that after we put the coins in HEAD/TAIL position in the boxes, sent them to Mars and Pluto and only then a magic hand reaches into the box, rethrows the coins and then somehow they still always match?

I genuinely dont think Im smart enough to get over this seeming paradox that I created in my head. But still very curious to hear what others think about this.

ELI5: How does my brain know to wake me up seconds before something happens?

I've had this happen several times, and I can't figure out how it works.

I'll be completely asleep, then suddenly wake up just seconds before my alarm goes off, someone knocks on the door, or my phone rings.

The alarm makes some sense if my body has gotten used to a schedule. But what about unexpected things, like a phone call or someone showing up at the door?

Is my brain somehow picking up on things while I'm asleep that I'm not consciously aware of? Or is this just an incredibly weird coincidence that feels more mysterious than it actually is?
