The Quest - Mal Waldron
This one got re-released under Eric Dolphy's name but Waldron composed all seven pieces. I love this album. Waldron's arrangement and piano work provides the thematic and emotional framework and Dolphy's angular style brings an edge. Ron Carter and Booker Ervin are also both fantastic. It kind of hits an interesting noir caper movie vibe for me. There's a mischievous cat burglar quality to it that I dig.
