My first big watch purchase and my favorite watch by far from my collection. Years back 2022 I got this watch from a certified Rolex dealer in Glendale California wearing my pajamas basically ( #1 Dad shirt and basketball shorts) lol. I knew exactly what i wanted after months of looking on rolex website before these discontinued. I walked in not knowing how purchasing watches go… quickly to realize I didn’t dress right at all. My other watch was a Gucci watch that was cool but nothing like this.
Initially they said we don’t have any in stock and that I would have to wait. But for some reason this super kind lady came over and took me to her desk and said look I want to help you. We have one in stock and well I had brought cash already. I slapped that on the table and the rest is history.

How hosed did my mom get & what can be done?
My mom just bought this (admittedly beautiful) Rolex in the diamond district in NYC. She paid $8k for it, and the receipt indicates it’s from 1988, 31mm with an aftermarket dial & bezel. I know she overpaid, but I’m wondering by how much. The return policy on the wall apparently says the seller offers refunds if it’s appraised at a lower value than they sold it for (which I’m fairly certain it will be), but they take 15% of the sale as a fee. I’m wondering if we should just return it and eat the \~$1.2k or try to negotiate and get him to sell us a stainless steel perpetual date that she also liked (no aftermarket parts) for around $2k to overset the price she paid for the first one. Neither have papers or original boxes. Let me know what you think!
