‎Don’t Wait for the Water to Turn Red
‎
‎We watch the maps shift like weather,
‎yet say nothing as the West Philippine Sea
‎shrinks under another nation’s shadow.
‎
‎While you scroll past,
‎Filipino sailors sail into danger unarmed;
‎their boats splintered by water cannons,
‎their supplies blocked,
‎their lives treated as bargaining chips
‎in a conflict we refuse to name.
‎
‎We speak of “tensions,”
‎as if the ocean were merely anxious;
‎not scarred by hulls rammed,
‎not bruised by bullying in broad daylight.
‎
‎Our silence is a reef where injustice grows.
‎Your apathy is the current pushing the small,
‎closer to the jaws of the powerful.
‎
‎They don’t need your condolences
‎after the clash becomes a tragedy.
‎We need political will,
‎international law with a backbone,
‎eyes that stay open
‎even when the headlines turn away.
‎
‎Don’t wait until the water darkens
‎to decide the Philippines mattered.

Based on monitoring by SeaLight, a maritime transparency project that monitors and reports activities in the South China Sea, the 135-meter CCG 5203 arrived 60 nautical miles west of Lubang Island at 4:20 p.m. on Sunday
