7 Peaks San Jacinto in the Summer. Doable or too hot?
Hey fellow hikers! I'm considering tackling 7 peaks loop starting in San Jacinto in late August and would love some advice from those who've done it during this time of year. I know it's in a desert area and can get pretty hot, but I'm wondering if the elevation makes it more manageable?
A few questions: -Has anyone here done this hike in late August? How was your experience?
-What kind of temperatures should I expect at different elevations?
-How much water would you recommend carrying? Any specific gear or clothing recommendations for the conditions?
I'm planning to bring plenty of water and layer my clothing, but I want to make sure I'm not underestimating the challenge. Any tips or insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help! #hiking #camping #activity source
Completely unplanned and very spontaneous. I’m riding my motorcycle up, bringing only a backpack and fanny pack worth of supplies plus maybe a bedroll.
I’ll bring all the basics obviously. portable charger and phone. Lighter, a skillet, food/drink.
I’ll be there most of the end of the day.
Let’s say I get there 4-5 pm and ride around having fun then set up camp up top cooking and relaxing.
Sleep later in the night and wake up tomorrow morning and just head back for the day.
What’s the worst thing you can encounter in the woods
My personal worst experience is when I was camping in the Adirondack mountains in New York. It was super hot so we opened our tent door. We had mosquito nets so big weren’t a issue. My buddy was sleeping but I couldn’t sleep. It’s around 2 in the morning when I hear footsteps real close. They were heavy so I turned to see but was real quite. Next thing I know a bear pokes it’s head into our tent. Stood there for like 20 seconds sniffing and walked off. I held my breathe until it went away. Now I will never sleep with my tent flaps open again. #activity #camping source
I‘m going on 5-day hiking trip in the south of Island. We will bring our own food and sleeping in tents. I planed to go with a setup of a prior trip to Lapland.
Camping at Four Jeffrey Campground along the South Fork of Bishop Creek in the Eastern Sierra. Going to higher altitude, above 7,000', is a great way to escape the CA heat wave; highs have been about 80° f - sunny in the morning, light thunderstorms in the afternoon, cool evenings.
Our trusty Springbar tents, plus Leisure Port, are home base for the week. The whole crew (our 4 kids + grandparents) is loving soaking in the incredible mountain views! #camping #activity
Wildcamping & Hiking - 2/3 person tent recommendations??
I'm from the **UK** and like to hike and wildcamp. I've been borrowing tents from friend's in the past but this wont cut it anymore and need to buy my own. I generally hike in the North UK like Scotland where conditions can be wet and windy. Also as I often do multiday hikes, saving a bit of weight would be ideal (<3kg/6.6lb). I'm looking for a tent that would fit me and my partner comfortably (50inches wide or more as we have wide pads and big backpacks), and can handle some wet conditions and is not over $400/£300. Does anyone have any recommendations? #hiking #activity #camping source
I noticed this mark after using this pot for the first time. Is this something I should be worried about/can I still boil water in it? #camping #activity
