During the COVID-19 pandemic, life changed completely for me because I am a teacher. When the schools closed, my daily routine of going to class and seeing my students suddenly stopped. Staying at home made the days feel very long, quiet, and boring. It was a difficult time because I was used to being busy and helping others learn, but instead, I had to spend most of my time waiting for things to get better. Even though it was a tough and slow period, I stayed strong until I could finally return to my work and my students. I missed the sound of the school bell and the energy of a full classroom. Without my lessons to plan and papers to grade, the hours seemed to stretch on forever. I likely spent a lot of time looking out the window or sitting in my living room, wishing for the world to open up again. It was hard to stay motivated when I was cut off from my professional life and my friends. However, this long break also gave me time to think about how much I truly love teaching. I realized that being a teacher is not just a job, but a huge part of who I am? When I finally went back to school, I appreciated my students and my career more than ever before.
