🥵Are cooling vests actually worth it for birdwatching & camping?
Hey guys,
I travel pretty frequently between Hong Kong and the U.S. for work, so I end up spending a lot of time outdoors in different climates.
Back in Hong Kong, I got really into birdwatching. Summer birding there is no joke—hot, humid, and if you're trying to stay quiet for long periods, there's really no escaping the heat.
Over the years I've tried all the usual tricks: carrying a small portable fan, using those Japanese cooling sprays, drinking tons of water, and hiding in the shade whenever possible. They all help, but only for a little while before the heat catches up again.
I'm currently in Ohio on a business trip and hoping to squeeze in a birdwatching and camping weekend while I'm here. While planning the trip, I started looking into cooling vests (this one is from Venustas) because I've been seeing more people wearing them during camping, birding, and overlanding trips.
For those who've actually used one: Are they worth carrying? What are the biggest pros and cons? Any other tips to stay cool during the trip?
I'd really appreciate hearing some real-world experiences before I decide whether it's worth adding one to my gear.
