Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins
I personally wasn’t a fan of Mary Poppins Returns and that’s mostly because of Emily Blunt’s performance as Mary Poppins. Now, I LOVE Emily Blunt and think she is a fantastic actress. But I personally think that she wasn’t a good choice for the role.
My biggest issue is that her version of Mary Poppins came off as very cold and a little unlikable. She lacked the warmth, kindness, and likability that Julie Andrews’ version of the character had in the original film. From my understanding, she based her performance off of how the character was written in PL Travers’ books, which was pretty much a very stern and no nonsense woman. I personally think that was not the right direction to go considering that this is supposed to be the same Mary Poppins from the original film. If this had been a remake or something, then this might’ve been a more interesting choice that could’ve worked.
