Why YSK: Under EU Regulation 261/2004, airlines must pay compensation for long delays, cancellations and denied boarding, unless it was caused by "extraordinary circumstances" like extreme weather. It also applies to flights leaving the EU and to EU airlines landing in the EU. Many people never claim it. You can claim directly with the airline for free; you don't need to pay a claims company.
