Desmond Doss is a Seventh-day adventist christian who's afraid to hold a rifle. Desmond belief in the commandment "Thou shalt not kill. He's a combat medic before enlist to United States of Army.
Doss takes an injured man to the hospital and where he meets Dorothy Schutte, they are in love with each other.
Doss is in training under the command of Sergeant Howell. Doss completes the training and leaves and marries Dorothy.
Doss unit is deployed in Pacific Theater during the battle of Okinawa. During the fight Doss saves life of Smitty his squad-mate, and Doss earned respect from Smitty
On the long run the Japanese launch a massive counter attack where Howell and Smitty are dead And several Doss's comrades are left injured in the battlefield.
Doss tries to carry the dead body of Howell and Smitty. And also help other squad mates that are injured. During the battlefield Doss saves 75 men in Okinawa during WW II without using a rifle what he does is hiding from the flying bullets from the rifle while carrying his injured comrades. Doss was given a Medal of Honor by President Harry S. Truman.
