Mary and Max: Adam Elliot’s magnum Opus

Mary and Max is Adam Elliot’s (director of Memoir of a snail) best work of art so far. He created a story that’s lovable, heart wrenching, and relatable all at the same time.

A small, but powerful cast lead by the late and great Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Toni Collette tell the story of a young girl and lonely and unique man and their very unlikely friendship.

It’s also one of the best depictions of autism spectrum disorder (Asperger’s) in any media form. It explains it in a way that makes sense. It helped my family and friends better understand how I (a person with the same disorder) view and interact with the world.

If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. It’s emotional, it’s funny, it’s quirky in all the best ways.
