Dumb question ahoy - is each branching timeline in the MCU it's own dimension OR does each dimension have its own branching timeline?

Based on how they described time travel and the multiverse of Kang's, I feel like it's the latter. Wondering if there's an actual answer. But when captain america went to fix end game he showed back up in the same timeline quantity as store brand Clint Eastwood.
