21M in Canada, Ontario - how do you find friends who actually commit to serious outdoor stuff?
Everyone I know is happy with car camping and a case of beer. That's fine, I'll do that too, but it's their ceiling. The second I bring up a multi day backcountry trip, people bail or say they're in and then vanish when it's time to actually book something.
I'm into backcountry camping, fishing, want to get into hunting, and I'm a gear junkie so I own the kit for basically everything. What I don't have is anyone to use it with.
Biggest thing right now is Rainier in 2027, and I'm training hard for it. But it's not a bucket list one and done for me. I want to go much deeper into mountaineering, keep stacking skills and objectives, with Ama Dablam as the long term dream. I doubt I'd stop there either, since most people in this sport never really do.
I don't mind going solo and I do plenty of trips alone. I just miss having someone to share it with.
So how do you find these people? Join clubs and hope? Show up to enough stuff until someone sticks? Any Ontario groups worth looking into? I'd rather find two or three people I can build real trips with over the next few years than keep doing it all on my own.
