Solo camping and actually sleeping well - what changed…

Solo camping and actually sleeping well - what changed your setup?

First solo trips I slept terribly. Not from noise or cold, just from not being able to shut off. Spent most of the night running through whether I'd staked the tent right, whether that sound was something, whether my water situation was fine. Classic overthinking, not fear exactly, just a brain that won't quit.

What actually fixed it for me was physical exhaustion before dark. Not a casual evening walk, real output during the day. Long mileage, elevation, something that used the body enough that lying down felt like relief instead of just waiting for morning. Sleep hygiene stuff I use at home translates almost zero to a tent in the woods, but that piece carried over.

The setup changed too. Sleeping position on uneven ground is something I think about differently now given what I do for work. Small stuff like where I put my hips relative to any slope, and whether I'm starting the night in a position I'll have to fight out of at 2am.

Curious what shifted things for other solo campers. Not the gear answer necessarily, more the routine or mental side of it. Some people seem to sleep fine the first night out, no adjustment needed. I was not that person and I don't think I'm the only one.
