One of the most surprising facts about golf is that it is one of the only sports to have been played on the Moon.
On February 6, 1971, during the Apollo 14 mission, astronaut Alan Shepard pulled out a makeshift six-iron (which he had smuggled aboard in a sock) and hit two golf balls off the lunar surface.
Long-Distance Driving: Due to the Moon’s low gravity, Shepard joked that his second ball went for "miles and miles and miles." In reality, physicists estimate it traveled about 200 to 400 yards.
