I think the purpose of 'Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man' is to give us an "MCU" Spider-Man story without actually having an effect on the MCU

I'm only really getting this info from what I've seen, which isn't much, so feel free to disagree.

From what has been described, this series is not set in an alternate universe altogether but an alternate timeline in which Norman Osborn appears to be as, or more, successful than Tony Stark.

I think after the complaints of Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies focusing more on his character's relation to the overall MCU, Marvel Studios wanted to make a show where he has his own story but realised it would be too difficult to set in the 199999 timeline.

I think this means Colman Domingo is likely the MCU's Norman Osborn, as well as Hugh Dancy as Doctor Octopus and all the not-yet confirmed voice actors for the other characters appearing in the show.

From what it looks like, Spider-Man 4 seems to be some kind of crossover or farewell to the Sony universe as opposed to a proper Spider-Man story set in the MCU.

This may mean these characters will briefly return in live-action or it may mean that the MCU is not planning on using these characters and made a show to still utilise them in some way.

Not only this but I think this show will confirm that these characters somewhat already exist in the MCU, so it's a bigger deal than what people are expecting.
