Many years ago I had a co-worker who's job was to open the branch mail. The problem was , he didn't stop there. He opened everything, even mail that was clearly addressed to individuals by name. This wasn't just newsletters or random letters.
Staff from other branches would often send important documents or item that clients had dropped off, and to make sure it reached the person they'd mark the envelope "for the attention of... It was common practice, and it mattered. I spoke to him about it more than once and explained these envelopes were marked for my attention and most times were time-sensitive. He nodded, agreed and then just carried on doing exactly the same thing.
So one day, feeling slightly fed up and a little petty, I slipped a +18 magazine (which I got from someone) into the pile of mail addressed to me . The look on his face said everything😅 Nothing dramatic, just a quiet lesson. And guess what? From that day on, he never opened my mail again.
Even after I later moved on to another branch, whenever we bumped into each other, we'd love and joke about it. No hard feelings, just one of those office stories that still makes me smile.😊
that’s honestly a clever and harmless way to set boundaries! Sometimes a little unexpected “lesson” like that is what it takes for someone to actually get the message.
