Hardness readings got me thinking today.
Took this reading today and started thinking about how much we actually take from one number. If it’s within spec, it’s pretty easy to write it down and move on. But it’s still just one spot on the part. After heat treatment, I always wonder what the reading would look like somewhere else. Same part, same batch, same spec, different location. It’s funny how a number can look very reassuring until you start wondering what’s happening just outside the spot you measured.
