Why hasn't any director ever made a major movie about Jim Corbett's hunts
I've always wondered why Jim Corbett's stories have never received a proper film adaptation, especially Man-Eaters of Kumaon. The story of the Champawat Tigress alone feels like it already has the structure of a great movie.
For anyone unfamiliar with it, the Champawat Tigress was responsible for hundreds of human deaths across Nepal and India before Corbett finally tracked and killed her.it was weeks of following tracks through dense forests, terrified villages living under constant fear, failed attempts by others, and a final confrontation with one of the deadliest man-eaters in recorded history responsible for 436 deaths
The Leopard of Rudraprayag would also make an incredible psychological thriller. Unlike the tiger, it hunted almost exclusively at night, entered homes, and managed to evade hunters for years.
With today's filmmaking technology, I can imagine something that combines the tension of The Revenant with the survival elements of Prey and the atmosphere of The Ghost and the Darkness. If handled respectfully and historically, I think it could be both a gripping thriller and a fascinating period piece.
Is there a reason no major director or studio has ever seriously adapted these stories? Is it simply because Jim Corbett isn't well known outside India, or are there other reasons? I'd love to hear what everyone thinks, especially if there have been attempts to make one that I don't know about.
